Vranac is an ancient Montenegrin variety and its real origin has been hidden deeply in the history. It is most likely that it originates from the close area of Crmnica and it is certain that it has been very closely linked with the variety Kratošija. It had been grown since the 14th century in the valley of Lake Skadar. It is our viticultural and national pride and in accordingly, it covers even 70% of our vineyards in Ćemovsko polje.
Vineyards, located in the shallow, skeletal soils, with over 2.500 hours of sunshine annually, give the excellent quality of the grapes, transforming it, by the state-of the –art equipment into premium wines.Plantaže has been recognised particularly by the production of this classic varietal Vranac, of the controlled origin and quality.
Montenegrin Vranac is the wine by which this grape variety has been discovered best. All varietal characteristics of Vranac have been preserved in it, but it also represents best the area, namely terroir-soil and rocks of Ćemovsko polje.
This powerful, robust southern wine was classified among 100 Top Red Wines of Europe within the list, published in the Milan weekly magazine Il Mondo in 1991.
